I have an obsession with the latest cane furniture in a major way. Caning is a method of weaving chair seats and furniture. It is usually derived from the rattan vine native to Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia.  Ultimately becoming fashionable in England and the Netherlands toward the end of the 17th century.

Companies have been stepping it up with a modern twist and I can’t get enough. Cane Collection has the most stunning pieces. I love how they describe the cane as having a unique airiness that’s works as a conduit with light and air.

Loving this Linen Cane Chair from Anthropologie. Clean modern lines made with tropical hardwood with a casual cotton and linen fabric to make it perfectly inviting. Chic but not pretentious. Check!

Ahhhhhhh, a daybed of my dreams. The Boho Daybed from CB2 is the perfect combination of this simple modern feel and casual chic. Whoever doubted the two could exist in one stunning piece?

On the Hunt - Facebook Treasures

Facebook Marketplace has been a great place for finding treasures! Marketplace is a convenient destination on Facebook to discover, buy and sell items with people in your community.I hadn’t utilized this platform for many years, but one day I had in my head something I really wanted and decided to search.

Here are some tips on how to find steals and deals:

1.    My favorite sections to look at are furniture, household, and arts and crafts. Furniture will show you - sofas, chairs, beds, tables, etc. Household could be anything from art, mirrors, plants, vases, etc. And arts and crafts gets dicey, with some original art and random sculptures.

2.    Searching for Style: I had in mind what chair I wanted for a dining table but the thought of spending $765 on a Hans Wegner Wishbone Chair that my children would be eating on was frightening. So I decided to just go with a knock off and if I could find used ones then even better. I simply typed “wishbone chair” in the search area. Marketplace will allows you to set a permanent search if it notices you doing it often. It will also recognize what you click on so it will pull more of that item or something similar into your feed.

3.   Searching for Vintage: This gets tricky because it may be a dealer who knows what things are worth or it could be someone personally selling the item and labeling it “vintage” when it really may not be. Most likely these will be the original and you can find so many great deals.

4.   Search for Brands: I love to do a search for certain brands. The retail brands like West Elm, CB2, Crate and Barrel, Anthropologie, Article, etc. have so many pieces on the site.

5.    Search for Like New: You can find many items practically brand-new on Marketplace.  I have run across sofas that were used strictly for staging a residence. Sofas are one of those things you want to be basically new, or really any upholstered for that matter.

6.  Be Specific: if you know the artist you are interested in, know the item name you like or have a specific material you are looking for, Marketplace will find you that and much more.  I somehow ran across a David Hockney poster that I wasn’t even looking for. It popped up in a search for something totally different!

My only warning to you is that it is addicting!  I use this for clients as well. But I find myself looking for absolutely no other reason than just to look. Happy searching!
